Edward J. is also buried in the Vet Cemt, Willamette, same as Delbert. At Find-A-Grave it says Edward J. was born June 24,1912 but at Ancestry it says born 1913.

I found a Charles Pye son of James and Elizabeth living in Portland in 1900. Charles M. age 23 born 1876. He had a sister Florence Pye born March 1889 and other sibs were: John N.1880, Percival 1885, Rose 1892. Charles,John and parents were born in England but the other kids, including Florence all say born OR. Maybe???

I can't fingur out if the Florence who was a dau. of James is yours or not. On Ap.19,1900 Florence Pye is at home w/parents James and Elizabeth in Portland going by Pye yet states she has been (m0 once for 4 years. On Ap 22,1910 I find Florence Marshall w.Edward in KS. So unless she got home to KS in 2 days it isn't one-and-the-same person. Charles had sibs, Albert born 1872, Frederick born 1869, in addition to those I already named. Charles was still single in 1910 at home at age 34.

I believe it is incumbent that a family member notify the SS when a person dies.

I don't know. When my husband died I called the next day and when the records came out on the internet on say rootsweb or ancestry the date was wrong. When I called the SS on this they claimed that someone ( ME) had told them that date.

Belly, I think most of the funeral homes handle things that way. It's up to the survivors to go to the Social Security after that. At least, that's the way I remember it.

For some reason, the year 1939 is in my mind when it comes to Social Security. Was that the year that they started paying out? I simply do not know. Cannot help but think that there had to be a year when they started it.
