Have u considered that Samuel M. Hall might have died after 1880 but before 1900? Both his brothers stayed around the Atlanta area and his father had a good business so it seems he too would have stayed there. In 1880 Sam was 21 and it looks like he was Book or Rook keeping. Rook keeping ,I think, means keeping pigens which seems a strange occupation.

Yes, I am sure that is why I can't find Samuel. I don't know if it was rook or book either. The family was in business so maybe Sam did the books. I will have to go back and take a look. Did it say where he was practicing his job?Have you ever tried to do a search for the obit columns in a newspaper. I know the brother, David died in 1902 and I have tried to find his obit using the Atlanta Constitution and his name. Have you ever tired doing a search for the date and the obit column. There are just too many David Halls to try the way I was searching.

I Found David's obit in Atlanta Constitution Sept.19,1902 and all it says about family is he was survived by wife,daughter,2 brothers and one sister so we know Sam was still alive in Sept. 1902.

As I said I found 1880.. there were ..671.. David HALLS.in the U.S.......If we had a wife and kids names or where he worked etc.that all would help.But still fun..he wil show up..how aboyut a cemetery where are the others buried??

No names or locations for Davids family were given. He died of a brain hemorrage and had been sick 2 weeks but few had known how serious it was. He (d) at 10 AM at his home at 456 Washington St.,Atlanta and the funeral was the next day, Friday, Sept. 19th from the home and he was buried in West View. He was a Traveling Passenger Agent for the GA. Southern and Florida RR. He was 43 and (b) in Atlanta and lived there most of his life.

A name of R>R company.. we can search for those that went to and out of Atlanta, right???

I tried to find the 1850 census record w/ the Lawsons in it. I cant seem to find them. I tried every name that you had listed that you found. Is there anyway you can save it and send it to me? PLEASE

TY for looking. Leagen, I did an obit search for the AC and just went through a bunch of days for September... the 19th was not listed. But David had H.L. and Joseph for brothers also. So maybe Samuel was dead. Mar. Levi and Joseph had a coffin factory.

Yea..I saw the coffen factory..but you want Samuel right??/ he was RR..Levi once was..so maybe same RR company..What about the cemetery though.. are they buried in Atalanta GA. Theres an Oakwood there.. That may be what we or you should check... A family plot in a cemetery where they all lived.

I wrote to Oakwood Cemetery in Atlanta and man got back to me... no there was not family plot.. I might want to do a find agrave.. did not think of that.

I found my way there .. got on the 19th and found David's article. TY for leading me there.

The census said he was born in TN but this obit says Atlanta CA.. typical, I guess.

I just realized something. By 1880 Levi and Mary had another son Named H.L. (b) ca. 1874 giving them 4 sons and one daughter and when David (d) in 1902 only TWO brothers were alive so it could be SAM was the brother who had already died.

I posted my last post before reading yours about H.L. And if David was buried in West View Cemt. maybe Sam was too.

My next step is contacting that cemetery after taking a look to see what might be online. That would be a good thing if I find them all together. I think what led me on the wrong path was the fact that I did find the father, Levi and wife Mary buried in Oakland cemetery, in Atlanta and took a bad guess as to the others going there, too.

In 1890 city directory for Atlanta Levi was still alive listed w/his coffin business.

In 1889 city directory Samuel M. Hall boarded at the Kimball House in Atlanta and worked as a Clerk for his father so we know he was alive as late as 1889. If he boarded at a Hotel he was prob. single.

There were 2 different Hall men also boarding at The Kimball House andd both worked for a Germania Insurance Co., wonder if related to your hall's? One was a Stovall Hall I think. There was no Hall woman listed living at the Kimball House who worked. I think that directory only listed people who had jobs or businesses so if Sam had a wife w/him but she didn't work she might not be listed.

Joseph was alive in 1910 census doing the coffin thing. I think that the cemetery is my best hope here. Also see that David had Masonic cemetery,, the railroad and the masonic were strong in the Halls.

Look in 1910 in GA for Harry. If he is THERE then he can't be the NY one.

I don't find him in GA in 1910. But it seems pretty far fetched Sam and Harry in Manhattan. I think I better hold off until I check with the cemetery in Ga, I am hoping they will help me.In NY Samuel's birthdate is a bit off.but the two are listed as brothers. The wife, Florence could have given out the VT birthplace for Levi..

Nevermind Judy, I found Goldman,they had his last name as Dawson. I found him in 1860 as well. Now trying to find him in 1870 and up. If you find him before me. Let me know. Thanks again for all ur help.

Can you post just Samuel..Levi H. HALL and Mary ? maiden name?..dob-dod.. Sams wife,maiden name,dates..locations..etc...info and what ever you know for sure. Nothing extra or things you think just what you have dtaes names that stuff..?

NJR doesn't know if Sam ever married, that is one of the things she is trying to find out.

I found Joseph J. still in Atlanta in 1910 (He (m) a Nellie in 1896)so those in NY can't be correct because when David (d0 in 1902 he was survived by 2 brothers meaning one had died. So all three of David's brothers couldn't be alive in 1910 and we Know Joseph was so either Sam or Harry was dead by 1910.

David HAll JR. b in NH 1784 hm to Miriam or Lucinda Burbank had Levi who was born in 1827 in NH and married Mary E. who was born in GA. I don't know the married name of Mary E.

Could Harry/ H.L have been a WW1 war casualty? Would he have been too old to go as he was 44. I joined the GAFulton rootsweb page and some has told me that the people at the west view cemetery are very helpful. So far there info is not online, but I will write tomorrow and mail.

How was dinner? I am pretty sure that Joseph J. and His Nellie V. did not have children. Samuel and H.L who is no doubt Harry may or may not have married. As to the sister, she was alive in 1902 so she may have married. So confusing, but I have hopes.

The HALL family arrived in Walpole, Cheshire county NH and was there for a while. Various branches were in VT and back and forth to NH. Levi is the only one who really left the area and went south. That is not true, another brother ended up in IL and a sister came to NY but south is new for that family.

Now that I have a few death dates what is the best way to find the newspaper that would give the obit. I am guessing if they had an obit it would have been in the Atlanta Constitution.

I was looking for the post and saw E-Mock's passing. She wass so good to E-mail with words of kindest. I will really miss her. By all means i will try to get into find a grave. I have found several family members that I knew and some that were unknow: like little babies. My mom's dear cousin passed on this Feburary 23. She was 101. Lived most of her life with in 100 miles of were she grew up.

No, I have never found Levi in any of those places where the kids or some of them were born, TN and also AL the rest were born in GA, but David who was born in TN says born in Atlanta GA in his obit.
