Read all the latest news in the room and I am glad for all the good news on Daniel and family. I think that I may have to shut down my computer in the next day or so. One more day to get all the big stuff down. That means this too! So I'll be out of contact for awhile. All my Gen records are packed away now. The work shop is a nightmare yet. My friend said to just take what tools and such I need and leave the rest. What do I need with 10 different size of nails! LOL Thanks for letting me ramble on in the room. Take care. love Guk

Thanks for the post and you are right about the confusion in the records of Irish immigratants. With my grandpa family tradition gives one story and dates and census has another entirely. In addition an earlier house fire and later daughter-in-law who never knew him destroyed all his personal effects! But, I'll keep looking and will probably never know for sure.... Thanks again and I'll appreciate everyone keeping an eye out for my John O'Brien.

your JENKINS..I saw John & Mary & kids starting w/ 1850 thru 1870 Chateaugay NY. Also saw where you submitted corrections for Rozilla (SARGENT/SEARGENT) and John JINKINS.. so know I found the right family LOL. Last thing I can find on the son John so far is he's listed on the 1890 VETERANS SCHEDULE as a Civil War survivor, served as Private 1865-1866. Do you have that info yet? If you don't or can't access, I'll post back w/ the Co. & dates.

The Jenkins (John and Rozilla and kids John and Charles) moved to VT by 1892. At that time their daughter Ina May Fury died in Canada and her obit mentions her father John of Thetford,VT. The elder John and Mary stayed in Chateaugay. Mary (d) about 1881 and John went to live w/married daughter Mary Harrica. It gets confusing because there were 3 John's, one in each generation. John and Mary, John and Rozilla, John William and Leta Hill Jenkins. The third one went by Will so not as confusing.

No, the Sargents all stayed in NY. Rozilla was actually (b) in NY . On earlier census some of her older sibs were (b) in VT and younger in NY. Roz's parents were born: father in Mass. and mother in VT., but they were in NY by 1820 and her parents never left. Don't know Why Roz and John moved to VT but so did the Hill family also from Chateaugay and Roz and John's son John William (called Will) (m) Leta Leona Hill daughter of Enoch and Mina who all moved from NY to same area of VT. Guess they all knew each other in NY and for some reason decided to moved together to VT. I have been to the house Enoch built in NY where Leta was born. It is still a working farm.

I have info on the Jenkins family immigration and every one of them say they came to US in different years and father John (husband of Mary) says He came after 1850 too. I thought if I found son John in 1900 I could put all the different immigration dates together and get an average of when they actually did come. Son Charles H. had (d) in 1888 in Ohio never (m) and daughter Eliza is elusive and dau. Mary Harrica was (b) in Chateaugay so none of them will help. It all depends on John and Ralph.

Chateaugay,NY is right on the boarder and near Noyans and Clarenceville,Canada at top of Lake Champlain and one of the girls ended up there and I know there was a lot of (m) between the Canadians of that area to people in Chateaugay.

I checked 1900 Bennibgton and still didn't find John. His age from the cemetery is off from most other records. It says he was 65 in 1902 making him (b) 1837. I noticed in other census he lists different (b) dates too but in earliest (1850) he is 16. The 1837 (b) year fits one of his brothers in earlier census. I think people weren't as concerned about their age then. And maybe whoever gave the info at time of his death wasn't sure of John's age.

Yep, TN is a hot choice for relocating right now! We're presently being overrun by folks wanting out of FL! Biggest draw is more reasonable real estate prices and no state income tax, but sales tax is almost 10%!

Humm. thinking about that post. Vada is in 1920 with parents at age 30, but you give her birth as 1888. she should be 32. What I listed below was also from 1920. wonder if she was listed twice. Perhaps married a widower. Nope... not that. the BRANDS census was Jan 6 and the MOOT census was in April. not the same person

1900 census gives Vada's birth as Feb 1886 age is given 14. 1910 give her birth about 1887 her age is listed as 23. and the 1930 gives her age as 30. With a birthday in Feb the 14 and 24 ages are within reason for difference. the 1930 is about 3 years off. Will keep looking

I had her birth date as 1886 and in all the census I found her she was single and with her mom and dad. I guess there are two choices for her, she either married or died. I will go back and look at that 1930 census and see if she is on the page with her parents and married. I took a look at what cemeteries they had listed on usgenweb, but did not see her. Her parents are buried in Allegany County but no dates are given.

Her parents are both 69 in the 1930 census, I am sure she would be taking care of them unless she had died or married. Her father was still working in 1930 at age 69 as a guard at the board of educ.

Vada is with her parents in 1920 and in the perfume factory. Is she was with Wheaton it is listed in 1920 and 1930 so it could not be her.. But that name Vada is really strange or let's say unusual.

those are as close as I can find ... the place of her parents birth are correct age, while not consistent with 1900/1910 it matches up with the 1920.

did a search with just the name Vada with living in and born in NY. there are quite a few, but not so many that you can't dig through. Was going to go outside of NY with the search if necessary

So in 1930 she is in the same town as her parents but married.. She could take care of them or at least keep an eye on them that way.

Could she have been in both census one time with parents in 1920 and then the same year with Mr. Wheaton?

with a 12 year old child, this may not be her. The age, city and county is correct and age consistent with 1920, BUT unless she was visiting parents in 1920 and the census taker did not ask for details something is off a bit. Vada Wheaton married at age 27, the child would have been born about 2 years later. it might be worth looking into a death or marriage certificate. Need to look more closely

This gives me some leads. I naver thought of only putting in the first name, but guess having a name like Vada is helpful.

1920 WHEATON census was taken on 14 Jan....MOOT was taken on 16 April. she could have easily been counted 2 times. and full details not given when they stated she was daughter, just listed her with parents last name. bears checking cuz its really close.

first name search works well with unusual names, forget it for most searches. I have used it to find married daughters a few times.

I didn't know about a grand-daughter for Ralph and Francis also named Francis. I really haven't traced their family much. I know of their son Luke and that both Ralph and Francis r buried in St. Albans,VT.
