You r right about needing any and all names associated w/anyone we r looking for. I have often found info on someone by looking for their family members when I couldn't find anything about them.
AX, send this to your 2 friends ......Loomis/Whitcomb and more.... Job WHITCOMB,1674 Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts...m:Ann Loomis, b. 10 Jan 1677/1678, Windsor, Hartford , Connecticut.... http://www.colonialfamilies.org/tng/getperson.php?personID=I140325&tree=nscfa .....Tell them to click on each persons name for more information.
I think all of ours we have found by tracing the children back. Just in a nice site and many WILBURS did you have a Smith WILBUR? http://www.citereh.com/i12.htm ( Another Mayflower Descendant) Our POTTERS,and WILBORS are there. Nice site and many surnames with info. ...Guk many (If you have these) ..TAORS..TABERS there.
Is your Oliver Nelson the one from Granville,Bradford Co.,PA who was one of the first settlers there in 1807 and stayed until 1847 when he sold out to a John Gee? Is he also the same Oliver who (m) an Elizabeth Morris or Morrison (found it both ways) and had a dau. Henrietta (b) in Granville,PA Aug.4,1812? That one was know as William Oliver Nelson and is prob. the same as Oliver of 1807 there.
30 matches William NELSON Ohio..)http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/isearch
Yes, I have a Smith Wilbur/Wilber from NY. His family was from Easton,NY to Chateaugay (at least He went to Chateaugay). I have traced his family but can't prove if his wife Julia Cook was dau. of a Selim Cook of Chateaugay. Smith (m) a Julia Cook and the Julia, dau. of Selim, was correct age to be the wife. But haven't found any definative proof it is same Julia. But Julia, dau. of Selim, was Only Julia Cook in area who Could be his wife. They connect to my family by (m) a couple times it seems. I think Selim was connected through his father to my Gt.Gt.Gt.Gt.Gd.mother Charlotte Cook from Georgia,VT to Chateaugay,NY who (m) a Heman Hill. Then one of Smith and Julia's daus. years later (m) into the same Hill family after they had moved to area of Thetford, VT. So there could be two family connections there. IF Julia Cook Wilbur Was Selim's dau. and IF Selim IS connected back to Charlotte Cook Hill. A lot of IF's there but that is how we trace a family. The scientific method, start w/an assumption and try to prove it.
When you give us info on who you need help with please include All names and places connected with the person to help in search.
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ny/franklin/military/1812/1812nonres.txt) HILL, Heman married Charlotte Cook in Georgia, Franklin Co. VT on March 15, 1816. He served in Capt. Elijah Wood’s Co. of Vermont militia in the fall of 1813. He and his wife were born in about 1795 and were living in Chateaugay in 1850. He appears as “Herman Hill” in the 1860 census of Chateaugay and he died there on March 19, 1871. Now notice above that under COOK.. Cook, Nathan .. married Minerva HILL in VT in 1815. Lived in Chateaugay. Served in Conrad Saxe’s VT mil. WC-11275 and SC –3822.. Maybe she is from the same HILL family? More came up on that search.

What happened to Ax? I was wondering where he was and if he was still not smoking?
so good it wasn't anything real serious w/ your mom. sounds like you'll be busy making plans, etc. for a while.
Hi. he posted a few days ago that he was in hospital since Feb. 19
I found it in archives. Soory..Ax...thinking about you and pray for ya...:(
Thanks I did find that.
off to get dinner and etc.....bb..
a big helloooo LOL
Hi! was just thinking (again) that it's so nice of you to keep this chatroom going for everyone. Do you ever post queries yourself here? Anything we can help with? :)
The post you made on Mar 4th at 00.39.06 abt the Brown family and McHenry co IL. I had that book and have all that info. I think it was written by Maude Dodd, who was the grand daughter of the Sam Brown that died in 1909. The part abt Samuel K Brown is a mistake on someones part but not hers. The Samuel K Brown is the same one we were looking for last year in IA, SD and IL. She must have written it in pencel and the top part of the R wore off and looked like a K. He is written up with a K in a lot of places but it is wrong. I have his obit, death cert and his dads will, no K’s
hey there! something told me you already had that, but typed it anyway :).. so what's missing or needing more info now?
oh ya, meant to ask before... you posted quite a while back about some books (by title) you were looking for. Some of us might be able to check Heritage Quest and/or Ancestry.com or online sources if you still need
Again I thank you for you efforts on my behalf....My original post was that I had the descendants on Oliver....I did not have his parentage....I believe the date of his birth is in error...I was told he was born in Milford, MA..However, I checked the vital records for that town and found the only person born on 25 Nov 1766 was that of a Levi Nelson...Levi was not a twin...The lady that sent me the inquiry is recheckecking her notes...Harriet was a daughter of Oliver and died in Utah....She was married four times with a divorce thrown in....Oliver had two sons we believe that were named William and Oliver....
...or was it that you can access them yourself but wanted to buy a copy of them? (afterthought, sorry)
Hi Donna, Sorry I was away from puter for a while.Glad to see you pop in....Busy getting ready for my 'Big trip'...LOL
atta girl! can't wait
and I do remember finding a Maude OSGOOD on a census ... bet you're correct about Sam's middle initial.
As of January 2006, CONNECTICUT SOCIETY OF GENEALOGISTS, INC. has a brand new website. ~ http://www.ctgenealogy.com
Maude Osgood was the daughter of Sam Brown sr. She married Byron T Hunter. He died abt 1940 and she married ???? Dodd, I cant remember his first name. She is buried by her first husband in Cary cem, Cary, McHenry IL.
Nathan Cook is supposedly the brother to my Charlotte but we have yet to prove who Minerva Hill belonged to. Herman's father was a Jonathan Hill and we are thinking Minerva might be a dau. of a brother of his as we have not found her as a sister to Heman so she might be Heman's cousin but pretty sure she is of same family. The Hills and Cooks moved together over the frozen ice of Lake Champlain from VT to NY one winter going by wagon.
Some records say Minerva belonged to a Rueben Hill but I can't remember exactly how Reuben fits into the Hills. Don't have my Hill papers out.
Lea, In your more recent 'COOK' family, did you run across a COOK family, in 1930's in Hyde Park, VT. I only know one family members name=Herbert Cook, b: abt/around 1934?
In my last post that is supposed to be grand daughter not daughter.
s'okay, i figured that LOL... hey! this one's wierd that I just found.... there's a birth of a Samuel Right BROWN in NY with the exact same DOB (but in Bedford MA) as what was in that McHenry Co. IL book!.. do you want just in case?
[from Family Data Collection - Births Record] ~ Name: BROWN, Samuel Right - Father: BROWN , Samuel Right - Mother: ANNIBAL , Eunice Ette - Birth Date: 17 November 1817 - City: Dresden - County: Yates - State: NY - Country: USA
and that's not all, there's 6 other kids w/ info showing that same ANNIBAL/BROWN couple as parents...... here's the source info just FYI ~ These birth records were created during a study about human genetics and disease. The millions of individual records were created from a variety of sources, including birth, marriage, and death records, obituaries, probate records, books of remembrance, family histories, genealogies, family group sheets, and more, but the documentation was not kept. Since genetics confirms relationships in a scientific way, researchers were not concerned with citing the source of every genealogical fact compiled. These results have now been sorted into Birth, Marriage, and Death categories. Due to the lack of documentation, treat this information like a secondary source, but use it to record possible birth, marriage, and death dates and names, and other possible information that could be listed. Then, with the new names you may have collected, visit census records and vital records to confirm information and find clues to additional details. If a search in the Given Name and Surname field turns up no results, try searching for the same name in the Spouse Given Name and Spouse Surname field as well. Source Information: Edmund West, comp. Family Data Collection - Births[database online] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2001.
.. I wonder if Dresden, NY is close to Bath, NY where SRB was supposed to have married????
... and this might be the birth of THAT Samuel Right BROWN's father?? ~ Name: BROWN, Samuel Right - Father: BROWN , Wright - Birth Date: 26 September 1775 - City: Swanzey - County: Cheshire - State: NH - Country: USA
a lot of early settlers of Swanzey, NH originally came from the early settlements in MA.
Dresden and Bath are close together. Sam Brown b 1775 was a author, Sam b 1817 was his son.
Don't let me interupt. But watch for Ascenath with BROWN there. often wondered abt her as child of John. Keep on doing what you are doing..I'm reading when ever I get a chance to get bacjk in here)
so is this NY info I found the correct info & line?.... or is the McHenry Co. history book correct (same DOB but different state)
Samuel..don't switch gears for me or anything just go as you are for Axc. But if you see a dau Ascenath or Hannah ..
I have so much info on that part of the family that to be sure where he was born I would have to ck, but I am almost sure it was MA.
I havent gone back to smoking but two weeks in the hospital with some of thouse idot nurses sure made me want to.
ok. sure is odd that the name AND DOB are exactly the same. If ya don't mind, I'm going to post the rest of what I found so you can mull it all over...
I am sure they are the same people. The post were made before getting all the right info. Post the rest of the info if you want to.

You pretty well have it all somed up right there.
No, I don't know of any of our Cooks being in Hyde Park and Herbert dosen't ring a bell but I am only marginally researching the Cooks and that is further back. Funny thing tho, my mother's mother was (m) twice and her first (m) about 1918 or so was to a Cook in Norwich/Thetford,VT area, a Homer Cook. So my mother had Cook half-sisters. So Cooks are in my family several times but don't know if Homer was of the Cooks from Chateaugay,NY yet.
The Sam that is buried in Cherry Valley, 1817. The news paper says he was buried there but there is no other proof. He was going home from NYC when he got appendisice (SP) at Cherry Valley and died at a strangers home.
If I'm still around when the 1940 Census comes out, I can look up my records and some of my other family that I've met.....(not REED, I never met any of them except my father Howard)..But I am so thrilled you and MAR found him befor I died.......I can never forget that.
what a shame & he died only 2 months before Sam'l R. Jr's birth! If he died enroute in Cherry Valley, wouldn't you think chances are he'd have been transported back home for burial? Trouble is, where were they living then?... his son William was b. 1815 in Auburn, Cayuga Co. NY... then last child Samuel Right Jr. b. 1817 in Dresden, Yates Co., NY.... suppose you've checked those 2 towns for burial???
Also, I have to give BETS credit too, she orig. found his parents, which started us off. It's hard to believe that I never knew a thing about him and now 'He's been found... :-) .......Lea, what's the latest word on your MOM ?
Hi mom! sorry but it was Leagen who 'led the hunt' and BRY (not Mar) who 'dug him up in Canada' for us :)
I always do that...I always mix BRY and MAR up, sorry about that BRY....Thanks Donna!
and I've ALWAYS mixed up some of what GUKALUCK/GUK needs w/ what Mar needs :)
Well look who your mother is!!! figures! :-)
going to bed early tonight, getting car cked out tomorrow, so up early and lots to do....So nighty night All.
now cut that out! don't sell yourself short.. I think Guk and Mar have similar styles of posting, search some of the same New Eng. states, & pop in/out a lot.
awww, well u rest well. glad you're getting all prepared early.. then u can enjoy yourself later :) .... I'll be offline for about an hr., then BBL.
TTYT then..........Nighty Night
Thanks for your links on migration trails. I'll spend some more time there! I have joined a couple of lists but never get any messages. I think the lists must be dead!
It turns out my mother has a broken bone in her spine. She has bad Ostero and has never been on any Meds for it and has a bad 'Widows Hump' She is (was) still an active lady and Dr. figures she broke the bone lifting. She now can't even go shopping or clean or climb stairs etc. Dr. has her on meds and says it should heal in about 2 months but she will never be able to do much again like she has. I don't know what I will do but for next couple months all is on hold because don't want to take her away from that Dr. I will have to go each week now to shop for her etc. then decide what to do after. At least it happened as weather is getting nicer so driving 35 miles each way won't be the problem it could be.
oh dear, that's worse than a pinched nerve. Could she use help from the Visiting Nurse Assoc. the days you can't be there? I'm sure you'll figure out what's best way to go. Will pray she heals well.
They were living in Auburn when he died. I have the name of the doctor and the peoples house he died at but I would have to look it up.TKS for all the work.
wow sounds like you've got just about all of it then. I did check what people submitted to Ancestry's Family Trees & saw some discrepancies.. i.e. ANNABLE vs. ANNIBAL , but at least I see it's all the same family
Thanks for the idea about the nurse, hadn't thought of that. Considering bringing her to my home and driving each week to her Dr. At least I'll know what is going on w/her then. Just spoke to her and Dr. wants more X-rays in next couple days to be sure nothing was missed so I will be going there to take her for those and then we will decide what to do. She seems reluctent to come to my house (prob. because I complain at her at times). I am clean, she isn't.
You can call the Visting Nurses Assoc for home care...The doctor will write up an order for them to go to her house..It is picked up by Medicare...There are also Home Health Care Aids...They will shop and clean and give her baths etc...You can call the hospital in her area and talk to Social Services..
what's the story with Ascenath? Was BROWN her maiden or married name? Who was spouse? what time frame/area? ... I've been browsing but no luck so need more to go on please. Happy to look.
all I can think of is your Hiram ARNOLD. Was that Ascenath's spouse? (not that I found anything.. just trying to remember)
Home Health Care I knew about because my Aunt had a lady help her but I never thought about that either. Thank you. I guess it is all just so quick that my mind isn't working right so talking to others like this and getting your input helps. I like the idea of both the Visiting Nurse for her physical care and at same time have Home Health Care for shopping etc , wonder if you can have both? I will talk to her Dr. now that I have some ideas. You all have halped a lot. Thanks
That should read 'helped' a lot not 'halped'.
Yes you can have both......I would also think about having the life line she can wear around her neck in the event she falls...It is hooked right up to the Rescue Squad...All she needs to do is push the little button and they will answer the call right away...That I believe you have to pay for..Also, type out the name of her doctor and the medications she is taking and scotch tape it to the refrig and emergency numbers to call such as your home phone, cell phone etc....
