Kit to Stange researchers
For those searching the Stange (pronounced: stung - ee) here's the information I have on my line. It's not much,as I am a real greenhorn (as they say in the south) when it comes to genealogy. My dad: Carl Henry Stange b. 6/26/15 -- d. 2/27/97 (Beaver Dam,Wisconsin >> my dad's dad: Heinrich(Henry) Immanuel Stange b.11/15/1874 -- d.9/4/34 in Beaver Dam,Wisconsin. Heinrich married my grandmother: Katherine Schindler on 12-28-1899.They had one other son: Raymond Fredrick Stange -- b.9/28/1905 -- d. ?? M.I.A. WW2 records have him listed as deceased:12/4/1945

Wanted to note that I believe I have relatives with the surname of DURFEE. I have seen the name a number of times on a genealogy of my family. It goes back much further than I have gone already, but I believe they were out in the eastern portion of the US... possibly in NY.

I'd suggest checking with your library. You should be able to find or get a copy on loan or possibly get someone on the net who has the book to do a lookup for you. Just an idea!

I'm back. Still a little sore, but much better than I figured I would so soon after. Just my neck bothering mostly now.
Was going through my book entitled 'Historical Sketches of the BYNUM Family' by Jasper E. Bynum, I have ran across many surnames that I have seen posted on this forum. However, it seems the trail of migration started in NC and from there went to SC, GA and AL. From there one group branched off and went to TX via Arkansas and the rest apparently went straight to TX from AL. So, if anyone has ancestors in those areas from say 1770 to 1900, please let me know. I will be happy to compare notes and information with you.

I am researching WHITCOMB, but we connect to Joslin,Howe,Scripture, Blood, around the 1600-1700's.
It seems 'The Charlotte Whitcomb Book' on the Whitcomb's, has made quite a mix-up on our Jonathan WHITCOMB, {son of John and Frances Cogan/Cogin}
We know that there were (2)Jonathan's born of John and Frances, but one died as an infant before leaving England abt 1635. That infant's bapt.& death record were found in Church of St. Mary Magdalene,Taunton Co.,Somerset,England...But the other Jonathan,b:bet (1627-1628),Somerset,England, came to MA.abt 1635. He married a Hanna (?).This Jonathan, died about (2) years before Hanna.
In July,1692, Hanna (the widow Whitcomb), was living with Peter Joslin and family. Peter found his wife (Sarah Howe) and children, along with Hanna Whitcomb dead after an Indian attack. 6 years later he married Hanna's niece, Johanna. note: (we have Johanna as 3rd wife,do you have any information about Peter's 1st, 2nd & 3rd wives? dates/children?parents/siblings?)
I have Johanna(h),b:3/8/1674, d: 9/24/1717,m: Peter Joslin 12/26/1708.(Johanna(h), was dau. of Josiah Whitcomb & Rebecca Waters).....Does this compare with what you have?

I sense a (disturbing) pattern developing here .. with over 90% (percent) of the postings being made by the 'former Genchat' bunch, I hope this 'room' doesn't turn into their 'personal' domain .. but it sure has that feeling the last 10 days or so. ... JH

Interesting info about the parallel and cross cousins. Except to know that the children of full brothers (parallel) would have the same surname, there seems to be little reason for these labels. However the double and (number) removed and half cousins (from half siblings who share only one parent) may be important. ~ ~ ~ ~ if I can, I will be glad to advise about or help with research in Tennessee.

Donna to all re: 'cousins'
i'm back just to share from a recent issue of RootsWeb Review regarding explanations of Cross cousins/ Parallel cousins / Double cousins, etc.:
[Editor's Note: Cross cousins are not cranky ones -- necessarily. They
are the children of a brother and a sister. Parallel cousins are the
children of two brothers or two sisters. Now say two SMITH brothers
marry two JONES sisters -- their offspring will be double first cousins.
Regular first cousins share only one set of common ancestors, while
double first cousins share all lineal and collateral relatives. Also,
these SMITH-JONES children would be parallel (or ortho) first cousins.
Confused about cousinships and removeds? See the chart available at:
