This has been a suspicion of mine for some time. I only know that my Grandmother's name was spelled TRIER & my father was given a middle name of TRIER. They show the name spelled TREIER on the 1880 Census CD's which were put out by the LDS. This is the first time I have found anything close...and they do list my Grandparents & three of their children living in WI at that time.

Hi Mar!! Thanks for all the information!! The TRIER was spelled TREIER on the 1880 census & I am sure there were othere spellings as well. Kate's married name was DOLLY. I don't think they ever had any children. Her husband died in the early 1930's..I have pictures of their grave sites in IA..the town no longer exists. I was fortunate enough to get information from the family Bible, but much of it isn't proving to be true. That's a bit frustrating :-(

Thanks, Patricia. I thought that might be the case. I had also been doing research in Albany County, but there I think they kept records a bit earlier. Albany is very slow though. Per a friend out there, you can get some things within a matter of days rather than months, if you go in personally to get the same item.

NYS did not start keeping vital records until after 1880, so you won't be able to get an 1835 death certificate.

To my best knowledge I have no CHEEKs in my family. However I do have lots of ancestors who lived in the Orange and Chatham counties in the late 1700s and 1800s. I do think that I remember seeing a CRAWFORD who may have married into one of my lines. I don't remember if I mentioned the surname of BLAKELY, but that is another surname that I just found in my family history book. In particular case, it was a man by the name of James Allison BLAKELY who married a woman by the name of Lavicie BYNUM. James was born about 1828 , she was born in 1830, they married in 1848 or 1848 and he died in 1852. I also have a JAMES BLAKELY that married a Martha BYNUM. Also just found these other surnames who have married into my direct family lines. MAJOR, NIX, HALLMARK, SCOTT, WALKER, INGRAM, HOLDER, GRIFFIN, BROWN, SANFORD, MOODY, CLOWDUS, DONEHOE, GADIS, WADERICE, FENDLEY, GLOVER, HARRIS, and REID.

My Great-Grandfather, John Jacob TRIER was b 2 July 1835 in Buffalo, Erie Co, NY. This had been recorded in a family Bible by his daughter, Kate Lorena. Does anyone know whether or not I would be able to get a birth certificate from Erie Co., NYS in this year?

Hi Bea, My CHEEK ancestors primarily remained in NC, around the Orange County area, in the part now known as Alamance County. Some were in Guilford and in Chatham, like yours, but none of your surnames appear linked to mine. The few 'renegades' like myself moved to SC, but mainly to the Horry County area, and that CHEEK ancestor married a CRAWFORD.

Also searching for father of Thomas William GURLEY b. March 29, 1811 TN. Mother was Jemima VAUGHN at her death in 1873... suspect his father was a George GURLEY who may have died in War of 1812 or at a young age. Thomas was likely born in the Lincoln Co. TN area... marcastn@bellsouth.net

What part of NC are your ancestors from? Also, where did they stop in SC? My BYNUMs were in Pittsboro, Chattam Co. NC. While there some of them married CORNIELIUSs, MURPHREEs, REIDs, BRWONs, SHOCKLEYs, GILLESPIEs, RENEAUs, ARMSTRONGs, PRAYTOR, and DAILYs. Most of the original BYHNUMs went to SC where they stayed only for a short while. Most went on to the Oneonta area of Blount County, AL. From there a few of them went on to TX. Hope some of this information rings a bell with someone and that we can get together on it and share information. bdorsett801@msn.com

Know what you mean about early risings. Seems I am always up early, but enjoy the quiet start to the day. My ancestors too migrated from VA to NC, but most stayed in NC. A couple went on down to SC, but no further.

Many of my ancestors migrated from VA to NC & SC. Sorry I forgot to add that to my posting. Guess I am just too sleepy from going to bed so late and getting up so early to go help my son throw his papers on his paper route this morning.
