Rena to All Botetourt County, Va Researchers
By the end of the day i hope to have completed an Index for the 1930 Botetourt County Census. Yes I know you can view this if you have a subscription ot some of the pay sites. BUT I don't, therefore I have a cd with the census on it. the Club members have copied each HOH, and soon this will be typed and sorted alphabetically. I look forward to this being finished. The info will include name, Dist and location, ie:street. It will be avaliable in the Fincastle Library and The Botetourt County Courthouse in Fincastle, Va. Our last project was to index the 1830 and 1840 Census which is complete and has been donated to the above mentioned locations. Looking for Alanson LAKE whose dau was married in
Ohio City abt 1840 he was listed in a Cleveland
City directory as a 'confectioner'. Not only do I
not know his wife's name but I know nothing of his
background. He may have been of German extraction.
Supposedly there is a German ancestor in my maternal
line and Alanson LAKE and or his wife are the most likelh
candidates at this time.
John Curtus GREENOUGH, father of Elizabeth who was
b in Schenectady abt 1812. A distant cousin is also
working on this line and JCGREENOUGH appears to be the
little man who never was! He is probably connected to
the GREENOUGHs of Mass & Vermont, but we have not yet
found the connection.
Thanks Nancy

When you have a town name and want to know what county it is in, try Geographic Nameserver. Don't pay attention to what it says at the top of the page that comes up....just scroll down and look for the form where you put in the name of the town and you can put in the state...see the directions above the form. http://www.mit.edu:8001/geo

Hi Toni!! Cannot say that I recognize any of them, but I will keep an eye out for them. I'm still working on my GGrandfather, John Jacob TRIER, who I thought was born in Buffalo, NY..yet the 1880 census says it was in PA. Don't know where though...Am sending NARA papers for both WI & PA because he's listed as serving in the CW in both states.

Hi Mar! Thanks for the information on that NY gen site. I will have to give that one a try and see what comes up. I did get some inroads on my SHATTUCK name. Still when you see a Daniel SHATTUCK with a 'T' for the middle name and your own family records show nothing for a middle name you wonder? I guess the answer was right front of me in Gt. Grandma's Family Album. His Mother was Eunice TARBELL. There is a photo of her in the album. MY uncle was the one who came up the link! Wonder where the photo of his father was. On the other hand Eunice looks to be on her last legs. Guk

URGENT ~ You do realize that two senate bills have passed the California Legislature, that will prohibit seeking, and obtaining any birth certificates, and any certificates with a mother's maiden name on them? You must be able to prove relationship. While the bills went into effect 1/1/03, they will be strictly enforced 6/1/03. However, word is going around that a date will be picked that research can be done before a certain date in history. But not after that date. i.e. 1930? So....hurry up and get your research done NOW!!

Just a sideplea- if anyone out there knows anything about SQL and cgi/perl or knows someone who does, the site could Really, Really use your knowledge and capabilities. The databases have been down for over a year, cuz they got too big, and I'd really like to pull them back up soon, as they are such a valuable resource. I am currently unable to pay anything, unless you'd accept research in the monterey, salinas, and maybe even san jose, CA areas in return. Or if you'd be willing to do the work and I pay a little every now and then as I can. I'd be willing to work something out. I'm desperate!!!! Thanks in advance!

do you know if any of your San Fran family did anything in Monterey area? if so, i'm not promising anything, but i might be able to find some time to look something up, if you need me to.
And thank you for your 'thanks' though a lot also goes to the admin of the room. I'm just providing the space, stability, some of the visitor count. :)

Additional on Vivian HUPP .... I have found nothing on her, it's possible that this is (Vivian) not her real name

First off .. The 'former' genchat bunch need to properly thank Shana for this site .. all the 'old timers' know who she is!
As for who I'm looking for, I need info on the HUPP family ( HUPPMOBILE auto makers)in California I believe? I have a Vivian HUPP married to Edward STADTHERR, a brother to my Grandmother.
Was a Doctor(surgeon) in San Francisco, California
and an 'All American' football player for St. Louis University
Time period would be about 1930
Thanks .. and thanks to Shana as well .. hope this site doesn't get taken over

well, we shall be doing our best to maintain a friendly and comfortable like setting in here. There are still a few kinks to work out, and we hope to improve upon it still, but we just couldn't hold out on the genealogical community anymore. *sheepish grin*

White it is..and now we have had really bad fog also. It would be nice to warm up, but slowly as not to flood the Shenandoah River and the Potomac River.

As you know it is late here on the eastern coast. We had over 37 inches of snow over President's weekend and Thursday night through Friday got over 6 1/2 inches more. I have missed days at work, could get out. Missed Friday. But will be back to work on Monday. I work now for the Wayside Theatre, a professional equity theatre in the Shenandoah Valley. I started Feb 17, 2000. So I am beginning my 4th Season. I am Sales & Outreach Coordinator and Education in Action Programer. I do multi-tasking all day long. Many jobs under one hat. The way of all non-profit organizations.

my toes aren't hurting. jump in all ya want. :)
the site itself is over 5 years old. the chatroom, though based off of another one, is new to this site, as of the 1st of Jan, 2003. Many of the chatters, including myself, that have posted yesterday and today, used to frequent that other room. though many chatters are also new to this format. All chatters are welcome to join in, meet ppl, share in research, ask questions, and assist others. So... welcome to Family Workings Chat, hope you enjoy, and even moreso, hope you are able to find what you are looking for. Don't hesitate to ask any questions.

Yes, It has been a while. I spoke with Dennis a few weeks ago. He said he had finally heard from True. True has been silent for almost 1 1/2 years. Anyway, True is Divorced and not at Wal-Mart anymore. He also was not well, I believe Dennis said.

Hello! My apologies if I've stepped on any toes when I just jumped in blindly LOL. Didn't realize this is a brand new site that just happens to be almost identical to one that many of us were so familiar with. So nice to meet Shana & many thanks to you for creating site! I'll read all the sections here, incl. archives & get familiar. Greetings and happy hunting to all.

That's why i just posted the link to my link form. I don't have a reference to it anywhere else, right now. I'd taken it down, cuz i was so far behind on everything else, and hadn't corrected any broken links in ages. but just last month, i went through the whole site, and cleaned up the links section. I want to allow submissions now, but start off slow, and thought that the chatroom was the perfect place to start. :)

Congrats on your finds. I actually haven't done any research in a couple of years. got too disheartened with the site, to pay attention to either, but i've been getting a second (third or is it fourth) wind. Of course, my only major addition lately, is my daughter. She's now 15 mos old, so that has also limited my time on anything but her, but she's worth it!!

You will get it built back up. I am sure some of these guys even have items they can contribute to enhance your website for genealogy info to help others. Even takeing the webs site they suggestion and set up an area for people to possible click the ling to go to them would be a neat idea, too.

Well, I am delighted the scriptor chose your website then. When I saw it up Thursday evening, I just had to email the others,. I knew they would pass it on and the site would become busy over night. I don't get to research as much as I would like but I have had a few Snoopy Dances since the other site went off. I have found my gggrandmother name in a marriage bond, so I was able to go back several generations, since her father's name was there to. It was great.

and as far as the site as a whole, well.... it still has a lot of work to go. it got too popular for the way it was set up, and blew up, in a sense. even after over a year of most of it being down, haven't been able to solve the situation. :( but the chatroom is a nice way to start on a comeback
