Good luck on our search! I wish that I knew if there was anyone on the rolls. Because of the missing records, the goverment man would only take the word of the oldest living member of the the family. I believe it was Grandma's mother or her grandma. The grandmother died just two days before the interview. Bad luck or timing.

I was reading your post on Indian information. I wish that I could think of something of hand. There was quite a falling out over Indian land claims in the family about the time that Ok. became a state. There is a series of books called Cherokee by Blood that might help you dig up something Bea. If nothing else at least it did prove the family story that came down on how any know records were gotten rid of that would had proved that the family were part Cherokee.

My 3gr granfather Charles Edward JAMES was listed as the only child of John William JAMES and Anna NISEWARNER JAMES in the 1880 VA Census. However, I note in my records that their son Charles Edward JAMES was born in Millville, Loudon, VA. Charles married Cora Estella DUNN 4 Jan 1904. They became parents to four children, all of whom were born in Jefferson Co. WV. Only two fo the four lived to become adults. Anyone have anything on this family? I will Rena, since I found them on 1880 census and then her death I have been so excited-I keep thinking that maybe Owens was a huge farm and maybe still in family and maybe they are buried there, or I could see where they lived-great great grandparents would be great but not too many people can't even find or have ever seen a pic of their great grandfather-Zelpha my aunt is my only relative -a beautiful and young-still drives-takes care of her home-age 90---would love to find it before she dies-see she never knew him or saw a pic of him either-and her dad (my grandfather) died young so Zelpha never got to ask him where, etc. All of the kids were born in Botetourt, last one 1907-no record of them either! Thanks so much!

When you get time to look in the BCVA courthouse, the large red books at the back of the room that has property owners (the tax books) in them it may shed some light on the address. (at least the postoffice used)The books would be the ones under the computers in the back of the first room, look in the one for 1880, if i get there first i'll try to look. I have not been able to go because of the weather in the last 2-3 weeks.

You're doing fine. Good idea to type last names in all caps so that they are set apart from other parts of the name.

How do I update the information with the source you got the information from? The reason that I ask is that I know several of these people have since passed on. One of the Dorsetts listed as children here was my father, Melton (spelled Milton in SS Death Index records) Alvis DORSETT. Also almost all of his siblings have also passed on.
