Hi, I am Cookie. I was born and raised in Fort Dodge, Webster County, Iowa. I LOVE IOWA! I left when my husband was stationed in the East and we have been out here since 1962. We are knee deep in GENEALOGY and are certainly addicted to it!! Can anyone help us with info on the families of ABRAMS, BRADFORD, BURKHOLDER, McCARTHY OR McCARTY? I just found this list this morning and can't wait to read the archives. Cookie

I'm a third great-granddaughter of Revolutionary War Patriot Peter Van Orden (1761-1841) and his third wife, Maria, who lived (and are buried) in Windham, New York. They operated an inn on Windham Mountain, apparently on the old Schoharie Turnpike. None of the books I've consulted can provide any other information about the inn and I'd dearly love to know if perhaps any of Peter's other descendants (during his three marriages he produced 17 children) can tell me anything about the inn: the years it was in operation, exactly where it was located, what its name was, what finallly became of it.

I just ran across a couple of things in a Fort Dodge, Iowa Corpus Christi History book I do not understand. Can anyone help me? 1. It is stated that in 1856 flour was $13.00 per bar. What or how much would a bar be? 2. BOONESBOROUGH is listed as the old name for BOONE, Iowa. My Mother claimed that my Great Uncle was born in Boonesborough, Iowa in 1856 on the way to Fort Dodge. I can find no information about Boonesborough and this is the only other time I have heard Boon referred to as this. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi Bev, My GOTT family is from Brayton, Yorks. My GOTT married a SLACK in 1795. My RHODES family consists of a mother and daughter (b.1815) only (as far as I can find) are from Castleford. My RHODES female marries a FROBISHER in 1831. The two families do not marry and do not have any connection until further down the 'road'...so to speak. Thanks for resonding though...good luck!

Bill Davison to All
My GG Grandfather was a Hickey, Charles Samuel Hickey, Sr, a light skinned black from Albany, New York. He appears in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania in the 1870 Census. He was a barber, a member/trustee of Bethel A.M.E. Church, and a charter member of the local colored Masonic organization. He also purchased and lived in, at one time, the house and property that was the first courthouse in Waynesburg, Greene County. That courthouse was a log building and has been rebuilt and is now home for Cornerstone, the local historical/genealogy society. I am looking for surname Hickey.

HI Cathy, I have relatives in the BUTLER CO. area of IA. I found some interesting information at http://www.raogk.org/ Also you might want to check out the genealogical societies in those counties. I wrote to the Delaware County Genealogical Society & they were very helpful. You can check these groups out by checking out the genealogical groups in IA.

Bar probably refers to barrel. Does your Fort Dodge history book mention a McGinnis Boarding House by chance? Or a Patrick Sullivan?
